HANAHAN, S.C. – The University of Miami golf team opened the 2023-24 season with a ninth-place showing at the Cougar Classic, Sept. 11-12 at the Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.
As a team, Miami finished ninth out of 17 teams, with a 54-hole score of 852 (E) on the par-71, 6269-yard course.
Fourth-year junior Sara Byrne and sophomore Olivia Grønborg each posted their first top-20 finishes of the season, shooting a team-leading four-under-par (209). Byrne posted three rounds of par or better, including a 68 in the second round of the tournament.
Grønborg also started her Miami career with three rounds of par or better, highlighted by a 69 in the final round of the tournament.
Freshman Aada Rissanen posted an even-par score of 213 in the tournament, while freshmen Barbora Bujáková and Rebekah Gardner tallied 54-hole scores of 221 (+8) and 236 (+23), respectively.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Katie Carman finished the tournament with a three-round score of 231 (+18).
Ole Miss walked away with the team title, shooting 816 (-36) as a squad. LSU followed closely behind with a second-place score of 821 (-29), while Clemson rounded out the top three at 822 (-28).
Miami returns to action in a few short weeks at the Glass City Invitational on Sept. 25-26 in Toledo, Ohio.
