Huskers Bound for Bearcat Invitational – University of Nebraska

The Nebraska men’s golf team returns to the course next week for the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio (Sept. 18-19).

Following a practice round on Sunday, Sept. 17, the 18 teams in the tournament field will take on a par-71, 7,279-yard layout at the Coldstream Country Club beginning with an 8 a.m. (CT) shotgun start on Monday, Sept. 18. Monday  features 36 holes of continuous action, before Tuesday’s final round (8 a.m. CT shotgun).

The 18-team field will include A and B teams for the hosts from Cincinnati. The Bearcats were one of six teams in the tournament field that advanced to 2023 NCAA Regional play, including Chattanooga, Illinois State, Little Rock, Middle Tennessee and UNC Greensboro. The field also includes Arkansas State, BYU, FGCU, Jacksonville, Louisville, Memphis, Nebraska, Sam Houston, Southern Miss, UCF and Virginia Tech.

Scheve Leads Huskers at Tennessee National GC
Second-year Nebraska head coach Judd Cornell led an experienced lineup of five returning lettermen to NU’s season-opening event at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate (Sept. 8-10).

Senior Gentry Scheve (Emporia, Kan.) got his fourth season at Nebraska off to a strong start by tying for 12th with a career-best-tying 208 (-2) at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate. Scheve opened with a career-best-tying 66 (-4) on the par-70, 7,280-yard layout at the Tennessee National Golf Club. 

Fellow senior Reed Malleck (York, Neb.) added Nebraska’s No. 2 finish by tying for 37th with a 216 (+6) in Tennessee.

Fifth-year senior Will Marshall (Elburn, Ill.) and junior Grant Jabenis (Omaha, Neb.) contributed ties for 53rd at 220 (+10), while…
