OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Through two rounds at the Fighting Illini Invitational, senior Karl Vilips is right in the mix for his first collegiate win as he stands tied for fifth just four strokes back of the lead. Stanford currently sits tied for 13th on the team leaderboard.
Vilips followed up a first round 65 with a 1-over 71 on Saturday morning with three birdies and four bogeys on the day, replicating his first two rounds at last season’s tournament at Olympia Fields.
Also shooting 1-over on the day was senior Barclay Brown freshman Ethan Gao. Brown shaved a stroke off his round one performance on Friday in what was a consistent round throughout, shooting par on 15 of 18 holes while tallying one birdie and two bogeys on the day. Gao had a more up and down day with three birdies and four bogeys for his round two 73.
Rounding out the Stanford lineup, Kush Arora and Sean-Karl Dobson each shot a 5-over 75 on the day, while Dean Greyserman shot six strokes over par on the individual side.
The third and final round of play continues tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 6 a.m. PT.
