U Dub, Taehoon Song Run Away With Husky Invitational Titles

BREMERTON, Wash. – Starting the day with a 12-shot lead, Washington didn’t relent during Tuesday’s final round at the 2023 Husky Invitational, running away with the team title by 26 strokes at -40 for the tournament.
 
Leading the tournament virtually wire-to-wire, Washington’s 824 54-hole team score was good for the sixth-lowest in program-history. UW’s 40-under par performance was its best since the 2019 Ka’anapali Collegiate in which the Dawgs came in 42 shots below par.
 
“To win is hard in college golf and then to do so over a quality field by 26 strokes really says something about the quality of our play this week,” head coach Alan Murray said. “It was truly special golf from the guys!”
 
Capturing the individual title was Taehoon Song. After firing a career-low 63 in Round One, the senior posted a 65 on Tuesday to finish with a 15-under 201 for his first ever tournament win.
 
“It was amazing for Taehoon to get his first win and to have a bogey free final round of 65,” Murray said. He was so impressive all tournament.”
 
Song was joined in the top-five by teammates Petr Hruby and Finn Koelle, with the former making his first-ever collegiate lineup. Hruby’s 66 on Tuesday was his third sub-60 round of the tournament, finishing at 12-under par for second. Koelle was below-par in all three rounds as well, firing a 68 Tuesday to tie for fourth at seven-under.
 
“Petr shot a fantastic 66 to push Taehoon all the way,” Murray said. “It was another super week from Petr. For Finn to earn a fourth place finish in his first tournament in the lineup and also a bogey free 68 in his final round showed maturity beyond his years.”
 
Rounding out the Husky lineup was Bo Peng and Teddy Lin, who finished tied for seventh (-5) and tied for 14^th (-2), respectively.
 
“Bo and Teddy were really solid again and had very steady individual weeks but were just overshadowed by the amazing play of the other three guys,” Murray said.
 
While the Huskies did most of their damage on the back nine on Monday, the Dawgs got off fast from the jump on Tuesday. Four-of-five from UW’s lineup shot a bogey-free front nine, led by Hruby with four birdies.
