FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Sophomore Meghan Royal shot the UCLA women’s golf team’s first under-par round of the season with a 3-under 69 to lead the Bruins on day two of the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course on Saturday.
As a team, UCLA is in 12th place at 9-over, 585 (295-290). Auburn maintains a two-shot lead at 20-under, 556. Ole Miss Rebel Andrea Lignell grabbed hold of first place in round two with a 4-under 68 to bring herself to 10-under through 36 holes.
Royal was the tournament’s biggest riser on day two, jumping 28 total spots into a tie for 49th. The transfer from Arkansas recorded six total birdies in her second round.
Not too far behind Royal are a trio of Bruins in the middle of the pack. Kate Villegas and Caroline Canales are tied for 49th at 2-over for the tournament. Villegas shot another 1-over 73 while Canales penciled in a 2-over 74 on her scorecard in round two.
Alessia Nobilio is tied for 55th at 3-over (73-74). Zoe Antoinette Campos rounds out UCLA’s rotation in a tie for 64th at 7-over.
Campos hits the Bruins’ first tee shot in the final round tomorrow morning at 6:14 a.m. (PT).
