State Completes First Day At SEC Match Play

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State’s men’s golf team is tied for seventh following the opening two rounds of the SEC Match Play event. The Bulldogs are tied with Florida after 36 holes.

As a team, State is currently 11-under, thanks in large part by a 9-under 275 performance in the tournament’s opening round. The 18-hole 275 is good for the fourth-lowest opening round in program history, trailing the season’s first round at Visit Knoxville Collegiate (274), the 2013 Warrior Princeville (274) and the 2007 Magnolia Cup (273). As a unit, the Bulldogs birdied 20 holes in the opening round, their second most of the year.

Individually, MSU was led by a 7-under showing from Hunter Logan and a 6-under performance from Garrett Endicott. Logan currently leads the Bulldogs and is tied for eighth place in the tournament. His opening round 65 stands as the second-best round of his collegiate career. Endicott birdied nine holes over the opening two rounds and recorded his best round of the season with a 4-under 67 in the opening 18 holes.

Josep Serra notched seven birdies and finished at even par on the day. Serra went bogey-free on the front nine of the opening round and sits in a tie for 36th place.

Ben Loveard and Alejandro Pedryc both made their season debuts for the Bulldogs. Pedryc was the lone Bulldog to shoot an eagle on the opening day, carding a two on the par-5 No. 10 tee. His opening round 71 is tied for the third-lowest round of his career.

State will tee off at 9:40 a.m. CT on Tuesday from the No. 10 tee. The Bulldogs will play in foursomes alongside LSU, Alabama and Florida.
