Florida Set for Match Play vs. Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Florida men’s golf team finished 7th in the stroke play of the SEC Fall Preview on Tuesday and will take on Alabama in match play to close out the tournament tomorrow.

The Gators shot a final round of 279 (-5) to finish 16-under over 36 holes as Auburn won the stroke play portion at 41-under as Alabama, Florida’s match play opponent, finished 8th at 9-under.

Matthew Kress fired his third straight round in the 60s with a 2-under 69 in round three and finished a team-best T6 at 9-under overall. He made 17 birdies over 36 holes and in his five rounds this season, four have been under par.

After a five-shot improvement from round one to two (73-68), Parker Bell kept the momentum going and shot a career-low 4-under 67 today. It was the Gators’ third of the event (Kress and Luke Poulter in Rd. 2) and led to a T17 performance for the sophomore.

Finishing even for the stroke play portion was Poulter in T34 followed by Ian Gilligan (T44), who shot 2-under 69 today and John DuBois (T63).

Following tomorrow’s match vs. the Tide, UF continues the fall slate with back-to-back outings at the Williams Cup (Oct. 9-10) and Georgetown Intercollegiate (Oct. 15-16).
