Fort Worth, TX – Sun Devil Men’s Golf finished third among a stacked field at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Tuesday, finishing at 13-under, 827 (272-275-280), finishing three strokes behind Vanderbilt who finished at 16-under, 824 (271-279-274). Luke Potter grabbed a top-10 finish posting a final round score of 1-under, 69, finishing 4-under, 206 for the tournament (70-67-69). Michael Mjaaseth competed as an individual at the Ben Simpson Tournament and finished tied for 15th at 3-under, 213. (67-72-73)
Since the start of the 2022-23 season, the Sun Devils have placed inside the top-3 in 12 of the last 16 tournaments. The team finished among the best on the par 5’s for the week going 12-under on such holes with a 4.60 scoring average. Potter was one of seven players out of the entire field to post all three rounds at par or better and managed the third most birdies in the field with 13 throughout the three days under the Texas sun. It’s also his fifth career top-10 finish as a Sun Devil. He managed to birdie two of the final five holes.
Preston Summerhays and Ryggs Johnston steadied through their round finishing inside the top-15 in their final round, both finishing tied for 14th at 2-under par, 218. Summerhays filed in a final round of even-par, 70 with two birdies throughout the final 18 holes. Johnston managed two birdies on the front nine and grinded through the back-9 to finish 1-over, 71 for the tournament (70-67-71/218)
Josele Ballester rebounded in his third round with an even-par, 70 with two birdies in his first eight holes, then managed to rebound with another birdie on the back nine to finish 2-over, 212 for the tournament (69-73-70). Gabe Salvanera birdied two of his last five holes of the day to finish tied alongside Ballester at 2-over, 212 (71-66-75).
Freshman Connor Williams fired a 2-under, 70 to get back to even-par, 212 (72-74-70) for the tournament in Colorado. He managed five birdies on the day and three in the first eight holes to finish in a tie for 26th. Mjaaseth managed three eagles throughout the tournament, easily leading the field.
