Gamecock great and three-time First Team All-American will become first player in program history to be inducted into prestigious club
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Former Gamecock women’s golf great Kristy McPherson will be inducted into the WGCA Players Hall of Fame on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, the organization announced this week. She’s the 87th member of the WGCA Players Hall of Fame and the first Gamecock to be inducted to the prestigious club.
She’ll be joined by Anna Grazebien of Duke and Charlotte Mayorkas of UCLA in this year’s class.
The most decorated golfer in South Carolina history, McPherson remains one of only three players in SEC history to win back-to-back Individual SEC Championships, taking home medalist honors in 2001 and 2002. Her historic victory in 2002, in which she shot a 7-under score of 209, helped lead the team to the first SEC Championship in program history. She helped lead the program to three-straight NCAA Championships from 2001-03 and was the top finisher on each team. The 2003 SEC Player of the Year, McPherson is the only player in program history to be a three-time First Team All-American.
She still holds program records for career wins (6), top-five finishes (18) and top-10 finishes (25).
The Conway, S.C., native has gone on to a long and successful career on the LPGA Tour in which she’s record 17 top-10 finishes since her rookie season in 2007. McPherson was a member of the winning U.S. Solheim Cup team in 2009 at Rich Harvest Farms outside of Chicago.
She was inducted into the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
