Gamble Continues to Lead Cougars at Ron Moore Intercollegiate


HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – For the second straight day, junior Madelyn Gamble shot a 2-under 70 as Washington State improved by two strokes over its opening round at the 2023 Ron Moore Intercollegiate Saturday, played on the par-72, 6,648-yard University of Denver Golf Course.
 
As a team, the Cougars posted a 4-over, 292, for a two-round total of 12-over, 588, and remain 12th after the second round.
 
Gamble’s second round was nearly a carbon copy on Friday’s first 18 holes. After a bogey-free round with two birdies yesterday, she recorded three birdies Saturday and added the lone bogey in her first 36 holes. Gamble sits at 4-under, 140, and tied for 8th overall.
 
Freshman Sara Piñeros posted her first sub-par round as a Cougar after a three-birdie, two-bogey round Saturday. Piñeros moved up 21 spots from Friday and now sits at 5-over, 149, tied for 50th.
 
Also tied for 50th overall is junior teammate Sarah Skovgaard-Bils, who shot a 4-over 76 Saturday following a 1-over 73 to open her tournament. Skovgaard-Bils’ had one birdie on her round Saturday, coming on Hole 11 after beginning her round on the back nine.
 
Freshman Alice Johansson fired her second straight round of 3-over, 75, and sits tied for 58th at 6-over, 150 after 36 holes. Graduate student Danielle Suh improved by a stroke over her opening 18 holes as she shot 5-over, 77 Saturday, giving her a two-day total of +11, 155, tied for 77th.
 
The third and final round at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate includes 18 holes Sunday, with WSU teeing off at 7:30 a.m. PT.
