LAST TIME OUT
Florida battled through rainy and windy conditions to win the Glass City Invitational by six shots at Inverness Club. The Gators led throughout day one and teed off today in the lead after round two was stopped due to darkness yesterday. After a bumpy start in round three that had Florida dropping as far down as 4th, UF rallied on the back nine, shooting 2-under to leap back and secure the team title.
Maisie Filler led Florida with a runner-up finish as five Gators place top-25: Jackie Lucena (5th), Sophie Stevens (T7), Annabell Fuller (T9), Inès Archer (17) and Paula Francisco (18).
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Florida last made its appearance in the Tar Heel Invitational in the fall of 2014 and finished 14th. UF competed in the event for three consecutive seasons from 2012-14.
STRONG DEBUT
Freshman Sophie Stevens had a collegiate debut to remember. The Highland, Michigan native finished a team-best T15. In he first round she posted a bogey-free 66 (-5) and later added a 69 (-2) in round three to end 5-under overall.
In her second tournament she placed T7 and finishing with a 54-hole score 216 (E) en route to being named SEC Freshman of the Week.
ONE LAST TIME
The trio of Marina Escobar, Annabell Fuller and Jackie Lucena all returned for their fifth and final collegiate season heading into the 2023-24 campaign. This will be their third season together as Lucena joined the program in 2021 as a transfer from UC Davis.
A SEASON AGO
Florida defended its home tournament for the eighth straight year under Glaser and for the 26th time overall at the 52nd Gators Invitational in the 2022-23 season. The Gators also qualified for the NCAA Regionals for the 11th straight season after making match play in back-to-back seasons and fourth time in program history…
