MEDINAH, Ill. – The Illinois women’s golf team opened the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah in 11th place after carding a two-round total of 591 (+15) at Medinah Country Club.
Isabel Sy is poised to record her second-straight Top 5 finish after firing back-to-back rounds of 70 (-2) to end the day tied for fifth at 4-under, one shot off of the lead. Sy totaled 10 birdies over 36 holes, six of them in the second round, which is tied for the tournament lead. The senior is also tied for the tournament lead in par 3 scoring average (2.88, -1).
Anna Ritter is tied for 51st after posting rounds of 72 (E) and 77 (+5). Ritter ended the day tied for fourth among all players in par 5 scoring average (4.38, -5) and amassed a total of five birdies.
Erica Lee is tied for 61st after rounds of 77 (+5) and 74 (+2) and, like Sy, is also tied for the tournament lead in par 3 scoring average (2.88, -1).
Lexanne Halama is tied for 66th, carding rounds of 74 (+2) and 78 (+6), and Sophia Sulkar is tied for 71st after rounds of 76 (+4) and 79 (+7).
LSU holds the team lead at 14-under (562) and Georgia’s Caterina Don leads individually at 5-under (139).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow for third and final round action at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah. Play begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. CT.
