Back Nine Surge Keeps the Bell in Westwood


LOS ANGELES – The No. 9 UCLA women’s golf team defeated No. 14 USC, 4-1, to defend its title at the second annual Battle for the Bell at Bel-Air Country Club Thursday afternoon.
 
The Bruins won four of five possible matches.

* Did not finish hole 18 due to darkness. As a result, the hole was ruled a tie.
 
UCLA’s victorious golfers won a combined 14 holes on the back nine, including five each from Villegas and Le. The freshman Seo, who competed in her first collegiate event today, trailed by two holes after the eighth hole. She went on to win three holes on the back nine before her round was ended due to darkness.
 
Campos has won all three of her matches when competing at the Battle for the Bell.
 
UCLA closes its fall season at the Stanford Intercollegiate, beginning Friday, Oct. 20 at the Stanford Golf Course.
