Women’s Golf Starts Strong Start at Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Ole Miss women’s golf got right to work at the Cherokee Country Club on Sunday, firing home an even-par 284 to sit at third on the team leaderboard after round one at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate.
 
The team rounded out Sunday by ranking first in par-3 scoring (+3) and second in par-5 scoring (-7), along with tying for the most birdies in the field (17). Additionally, the Rebels made 52 pars during its opening round. 
 
Justine Fournand led the charge for the Rebels, with the senior chalking up a score of 69 (-2). The Erstein, France, native made four birdies and 12 pars to put herself in a tie for seventh place, just three strokes behind first.
 
Caitlyn Macnab also capped off her first round from Knoxville under par for the Rebels, with a score of 70 (-1) putting her in a tie for 14th. This marks Macnab’s eighth below par of the fall season. She also leads the field in birdies with six on the day.
 
A solid round of 72 (+1) from Sophie Linder will see the freshman as the third Rebel that will enter day two in the top 25, with Linder currently sitting tied for 25th overall. The Carthage, Tennessee, native sunk a trio of birdies and 11 pars to open her fourth collegiate tournament.
 
Rounding out play for the Rebel lineup on Sunday were Andrea Lignell and Natacha Host Husted, whose rounds of 73 (+2) and 76 (+5) will see the duo tied for 30th and 47th, respectively.
 
Competing individually for the Rebels is senior Elle Johnson who ended the day tied for 30th posting a score of 73 (+2) in her first round in Knoxville.
 
The Rebels will be right back into the swing of things with Host Husted teeing off at 10:55 a.m. CT to kick start the Rebels on Monday for round two.
