WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Illinois women’s golf team fired a season-low 3-under (285) to finish the first round of the Landfall Tradition tied for third at the Country Club of Landfall.
Isabel Sy led the way for the Illini by carding a 3-under 69, her seventh-straight round under par, to end the day tied for sixth. Sy tallied five total birdies in the round, one of 10 players today to reach that mark, including four during the first six holes of the back nine.
Erica Lee also ended the day in the Top 10, tied for ninth, after going 2-under (70), matching her career-low round. Lee recorded four birdies and went bogey-free on the back nine. The freshman from Arcadia, Calif., is currently tied for the tournament lead in par 3 scoring (2.50, -2).
Sophia Sulkar also matched her career-low round with a 1-under 70 to end the day tied for 17th. Sulkar birdied three times and also went bogey-free on the back nine to close out the round.
Anna Ritter is tied for 55th after her opening-round 75 (+3) and Lexanne Halama is tied for 93 after a first-round 82 (+10)
As a team, the Illini rolled in 15 birdies, tied for second-most among the field.
Michigan State sits atop the leaderboard at 9-under (279), with Furman’s Anna Morgan and Penn State’s Michelle Cox leading individually at 5-under.
The Fighting Illini will be back in action tomorrow, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT.
