#6 Vols Place Third at Cypress Point Classic to Conclude Fall Slate

MONTEREY, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team concluded its fall slate Tuesday afternoon with a third-place finish at the Cypress Point Classic, defeating Pepperdine 4.5-1.5 in the final round’s singles matches.

Four Vols registered wins during Tuesday’s set of singles matches.

Lance Simpson earned Tennessee’s first point, winning 3&1 over Daniel Xu. The Knoxville native took the lead on his 10th hole and clinched the match on hole 17.

Sophomore Evan Woosley-Reed grabbed Tennessee’s second point after winning 1-up over Kristoffer Kuvaas. The Shelbyville, Tennessee, native gained the lead on hole nine and kept the lead until he clinched on the 18th hole.

Giving Tennessee its third point of the day was Bryce Lewis. The twosome went back-and-forth on scoring until Lewis birdied the final hole to win 2-up.

Clinching the match win over Pepperdine, Josh Hill defeated Joshua Koo 3&1. The sophomore led the match the entire back nine and took the win on his 17th hole of the day.

Jake Hall’s match with William Walsh ended in a tie due to the Volunteers clinching the match prior to the conclusion of Hall’s.

Sophomore Caleb Surratt was defeated 2&1 by Mahanth Chirravuri.

With its third-place finish at Cypress Point, Tennessee finished the fall with three top-three finishes—including team titles at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate and Fighting Irish Classic.
