Women’s Golf | October 31, 2023
ATLANTA – USC women’s golf fell 3-2 to Wake Forest in the semifinals of the East Lake Cup on Tuesday, October 31, at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta.
Freshman Bailey Shoemaker was the first to enter the clubhouse, as she provided the first score of the day in the matchup. Shoemaker dominated most of the round, building up a five-hole lead after hole No. 10. The freshman would put her foot on the brakes a little bit in the latter half, as she ended up claiming it 2&1. Senior Brianna Navarrosa claimed the other match for the Trojans, as she went on a tear on the back nine. The matchup at the No. 3 spot was tied at hole No. 10, but quickly, the senior went up four holes in just five holes. Soon after, she claimed it 4&3 to give USC their second point of the match.
Both junior Amari Avery and junior Xin (Cindy) Kou had a shot at posting that defining point but couldn’t muster enough of a comeback to win it. Avery turned a three-hole lead into one at hole No. 13 but couldn’t get past the hump, and Kou turned a four-hole lead into one before ultimately falling in the matchup.
