BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Vanderbilt men’s golf junior Jackson Van Paris was named the SEC Golfer of the Week honor, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Van Paris earned the first SEC weekly accolade of his career after winning the individual title at the 2023 St Andrews Links Collegiate at the Home of Golf. The Pinehurst, North Carolina, native carded 9-under 131 over 36 holes of stroke play on St Andrews’ Jubilee Course to claim his first collegiate individual title.
The junior got his week at the Home of Golf started by shooting a personal-best 6-under 64 in the first round of stroke play at the St Andrews Links Collegiate. He would go on to card 3-under 67 in Round 2 to win the individual title by three strokes. Van Paris helped Vanderbilt earn the team title at St Andrews, as the Commodores defeated North Carolina in medal match play, 4.5-1.5. Van Paris overcame a 5-stroke deficit through 11 holes to end his match with North Carolina’s Dylan Menante in a tie, as both golfers carded 3-over 75.
It is the second SEC Golfer of the Week honor for Vanderbilt this fall, as senior Cole Sherwood earned the accolade back on Oct. 11 after winning the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational.
The Commodores concluded the fall season by winning the team title at the St Andrews Links Collegiate. Vandy captured a total of three team titles and two individual titles during the fall. The Dores return to action in the spring, as they are set to compete at the Watersound Invitational on Feb. 19-21 in Panama City Beach, Florida.
