CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina junior David Ford has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for October.
Ford posted a pair of top-5 finishes in October, headlined by medalist honors at the Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf at the Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Peachtree Corners, Georgia, native sank an 8-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to claim the individual title and lead the Tar Heels to their third straight victory in the event. Ford closed the three-day event at 4-under.
Prior to the victory in Wilmington, Ford tied for fifth at the Ben Hogan Invitational in Westworth Village, Texas, with three-round 205 (-5). The junior made 13 birdies for the tournament, tying for the fourth-most in the field.
This week, Ford and the Tar Heels competed in the East Lake Cup in Atlanta, Georgia where the junior finished stroke play at 2-under (69) and won both of his match-play pairings. First, Ford defeated Georgia Tech’s Hiroshi Tai, 5&4, and later defeated Florida State’s Frederik Kjettrup, 4&3, to pace the Heels to the team title.
