Georgia Tech Golf Signs Two from Sweden – Men's Golf — Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATSAlbert Hansson and Didrik Ringvall Bengtsson, two top European amateur players from Sweden, have signed letters-of-intent to join Georgia Tech’s golf program, Yellow Jacket head coach Bruce Heppler announced Wednesday.

Hansson is ranked No. 55 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and No. 2 in Europe, while Ringvall Bengtsson sits No. 770 in the WAGR and No. 181 in Europe.

“We feel really fortunate about signing Albert and Didrik,” said Heppler. “We saw them first at the British Boys Championship, and the interaction between them and their Swedish teammates was fascinating. We began to build a relationship with them, and Coach (Devin) Stanton did a really good job communicating with them and getting them to come see us. Albert came first and had a great time. He loved the golf courses and the practice facility. He went home and told Didrik how good it was. He flew over and had a similar experience.”

Boasting an impressive amateur resume, Hansson comes to Georgia Tech after winning the European Nations Cup-Copa Sotogrande in Spain and finishing as the runner-up at the St. Andrews Links Trophy, the Stora Hotellet Fjallbacka Open and the Spanish Amateur Copa S M El Rey in 2023. Hansson reached the final of the Spanish International Championship in March, finished sixth in stroke play at the 2023 Amateur Championship, and tied for 50th in the European Amateur Championship.

Ringvall Bengtsson enjoyed much success in junior circuit events in Europe, earning eight top-5 finishes over the past 12 months in events that counted toward his EGR ranking, including two wins and a runner-up finish in Swedish Junior Tour Elite events. He won the Stenson Sunesson Junior Challenge and posted runner-up finishes at the 2022 R&A Boys Amateur Championship, the Teen Tour Elite #6, the Swedish Golf Team Invitation, and the GTT Finale-Sweden Invitational.

“They’re older (will be 20 when they enroll at Tech), very mature young men,” added Heppler. “I expect a lot of leadership and maturity from them. Albert has had a phenomenal summer, ranked as high as 29th in the world. Didrik continued to play well in junior golf. We’re getting two really mature guys who are best friends and will push each other. The team will be a big part of their experience, because that’s what they know where they’re from. I can’t wait for them to get here, and they’ll be huge additions to this program. They…
