Catalina Monroy Joins Women’s Golf Program on Signing Day


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State women’s golf head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll announced today (Nov. 9) the signing of two Student-Athletes to the 2023-24 academic year. Ana Sofia Murcia and Ella Weber have both signed National Letters of Intent to join the Spartans for next fall.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Catalina to our Spartan Golf family,” Slobodnik-Stoll said. “We have had some tremendous young women come to Michigan State from Colombia and South America. Catalina joins an impressive list that includes former All-American Valery Plata and current Spartans Valentina Rossi and Ana-Sofia Murcia. We are very excited to have her on campus and look forward to her being part of our program.”

Finished in first place team at the South American Championship “Copa Los Andes” in Brazil in 2022 … Finished in first place at the 2023 National Junior Championship, taking top honors as an individual and in the mixed doubles … A two-time team champion representing Colombia in the South American Junior Championship in 2022 and 2023 … A two-time participant in the Toyota Junior World Championship … Finished in fourth place in the South American Amateur Championship in Ecuador in 2023 … A member of the National Honors Society as a junior and senior and earned Dean’s List distinction twice … Earned academic distinction with excellence awards in Spanish, Math honors, Global Issue Network, world history and politics …

“Catalina is a very talented Student and Athlete.  She has had a tremendous amount of experience competing in South America; both individually and representing her country in team competition. She is a gifted young woman and has earned many honors in both academic and athletics. We are excited for her to join fellow Colombian Ana-Sofia Murcia in East Lansing.”
