TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Women’s Golf standout Gile Bite Starkute has been named the Pac-12 Conference’s Co-Golfer of the Week following her individual win at last week’s Match in the Desert. The weekly honor is the first for the graduate senior from Lithuania who fired a career-low 64 to win the 18-hole event.
Her 8-under round of 64 was also the lowest shot by a Pac-12 golfer this season and tied the program record for lowest individual round, matching Haley Moore’s 8-under par performance during the 2017 GolfWeek Conference Challenge. The individual tournament title was the first of her career after a pair of third place finishes in 2020 and 2023.
Starkute’s individual performance propelled the Wildcats into the record books as a team. Arizona shot 14-under par as a team in its runner-up finish at the Match in the Desert, which tied the lowest team round in school history. The Cats previously shot 14-under in the second round of the 2012 Wildcat Invitational.
Starkute has become a fixture in the Arizona Women’s Golf record books, entering the top 20 in program history in career scoring average and rounds played. She was an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection a year ago and has amassed a number of WGCA Scholar All-American, CSC Academic All-District, and Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll awards.
Arizona Women’s Golf will return to action at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, beginning on Sunday, Feb. 4 at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Southern California.
