Lady Vols Place Second at Collegiate Invitational Behind Three Top-10 Individual Finishes

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Tennessee women’s golf posted the best team score in rounds two and three on their way to a second-place finish at the Collegiate Invitational, their best since November 2020.

Three of UT’s five competitors placed in the top 10, the only school to do so this weekend at Guadalajara Country Club. Vanessa Gilly placed sixth, Manassanan Chotikabhukkana finished eighth and Bailey Davis tied for ninth.

The Lady Vols posted a tied-for-best score of 295 in round two, fueled by three scores of 36 or better on the back-nine to begin Saturday’s action. Their momentum carried over into the final round, where their 292 was the lowest score of the round and tied for the second-lowest figure in the tournament. When it was all said and done, Tennessee finished with a score of 24-over (888), 10 strokes behind the winners Florida State.

For the third time in six tournaments, Gilly led the way for Tennessee, improving each round to finish 3-over (219) en route to her third top-10 finish of the season and the fifth of her four-year career.

Chotikabhukkana also logged the third top-10 finish of her season, using nine birdies to record a score of 6-over (222). Her 71 in round two marked the 27th round of par or better in the sophomore’s career, tying her for 10th all-time with Lucia Polo.

Davis started Saturday strong with three birdies in her first four holes. She shot 2-over (74) in both rounds two and three to log her best finish of the season and the third top-10 finish at UT.

No player shot up the individual leaderboard Saturday more than senior Kayla Holden, who used three front-nine birdies in round three to shoot 1-under (71) and move from 46th place to tie for 18th with a score of 9-over (225). Like most of her teammates, freshman Martina Lopez-Lanchares saved her best score for the final round, shooting 3-over (75) to finish tied for 42nd at 16-over (233).
