First career win for the junior from Roebuck, S.C.
STATESBORO, Ga. – Junior Nathan Franks and senior Rafe Reynolds finished first and second, respectively, at the Thomas Sharkey Individuals Collegiate on Sunday. It’s the first career win for Franks who hails from Roebuck, S.C.
He fired a career low score of 204 (-12) to win by four shots over his teammate Reynolds. Franks posted scores of 68-66-70. His second round 66 (-6) is a season-best 18-hole score and was one shot off matching a career low score.
Franks joins Frankie Harris as the Gamecocks to claim individual crowns this season. Harris won the Daniel Island Intercollegiate back in late October for his first career win.
Head coach Bill McDonald has now had 32 individual tournament champions in his 18 seasons leading the program.
After opening with a 72 (E) in round one, Reynolds shot 67 (-5) and 69 (-3) the final two rounds for a 54-hole total of 208 (-8).
Transfer Laurens Schulze-Doering and sixth-year Lansdon Robbins also competed this week. They T-60th at 15-over with 54-hole totals of 231 (+15).
The Gamecocks open the spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 11-13), which starts next Sunday. Purdue host the annual event, and it’ll feature a strong field top to bottom with schools from several Power Five leagues.
