RIO MAR, Puerto Rico – The sixth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is in second place following one round at the Puerto Rico Classic.
UT shot 16-under in round one as a team, tying the seventh-best team 18-hole score in program history. The Vols led the 15-team field in par four scoring (-7) and total pars made (66). Tennessee enters round two one shot back of North Florida.
The Vols’ lowest round of the day was provided by redshirt senior Bryce Lewis, who shot a 5-under 67. The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native posted a bogey-free round with a back-nine score of 3-under. He enters round two tied for fifth.
Also shooting a 5-under in round one was Laurent Desmarchais, competing individually for the Vols this week. The junior tied his career-low 18-hole score in relation to par by shooting a 67 in the opening round.
The sophomore duo of Evan Woosley-Reed and Josh Hill provided Tennessee with 4-under 68s on day one in Puerto Rico and enter day two tied for 12th.
Woosley-Reed notched five total birdies, four coming consecutively on holes eight through 11.
Hill logged his career-best 18-hole score in relation to par after opening the tournament with a 68.
Providing Tennessee with its final counting round of the day was Jake Hall, who recorded a round-one 69. The redshirt senior enters round two tied for 17th.
Lance Simpson fired a 2-under 70 on Sunday’s round and enters Monday tied for 35th.
