RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – South Carolina sits 14th after the opening 18 holes of the Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday. The Gamecocks shot 286 (-2) led by under par rounds from redshirt sophomore Frankie Harris and freshman Bo Carpenter.
Harris and Carpenter each made four birdies to lead the team in round one. Harris shot 35 (-1) on the front and 35 (-1) on the back. Carpenter turned in a 38 (+2) on the front and a 33 (-3) on the back. He made birdies on three of the final four holes on the back nine.
Junior Nathan Franks shot 72 (E) and senior Rafe Reynolds shot 73 (+1) to round out the counting scores for the Gamecocks. Sophomore Zach Adams shot 74 (+2) and sixth year Lansdon Robbins, who is playing as an individual this week, shot 78 (+6).
North Florida has a one-shot lead over No. 6 Tennessee at 17-under par. Iowa’s Noah Kent has the individual lead by three thanks to a 9-under 63 at Grand Reserve Golf Club.
The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 4 Ole Miss and Marquette for the second round on Monday. It’s another shotgun start for the field at 7:30 a.m. (ET) with live scoring available via Golfstat.
