Kaua’i, Hawai’i —The USC men’s golf team closed out the final day of stroke play at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate today (Feb. 17) at the Ocean Course Hokuala in Lihu’e, Kaua’i, Hawai’i with a total of 12-over (73+73+77+77=300). The Trojans placed solo 20th and finished with a tournament total of 42-over (298+308+300=906).
No. 17 Arizona took home the tournament crown with a winning score of 20-under. Arizona was three shots in front of second place California. New Mexico’s Bastien Amat was the individual winner with a score of -13 (69+70+64=203).
For the third day in a row, Antonio Safa led USC’s effort. His four birdies kept him around even par throughout the day, but an unlucky break on nine pushed his round to a total score of 1-over, 73. After matching his score from yesterday, Safa finished the tournament with a team-best 2-over, which slotted him into a tie for 36th.
Gavin Aurilia bounced back today, matching his teammate Safa with a final round total of 1-over, 73. He had a team-best 5 birdies on the day and closed out the tournament with a total of +22 and a tie for 114th.
Nicolas Dominguez and Sam Lape both made three birdies today and both scored 5-over, 77 in the final loop of Hokuala. Dominguez, who was the second-best overall finish for the Trojans on the weekend, totaled 8-over on the tournament which placed him in a tie for 66th. Lape totaled 15-over for the three rounds and tied for 100th.
Krando Nishiba closed out the tournament with a 6-over, 78 in the final round which pushed him into a tie for 114thoverall at 22-over alongside teammate Aurilia.
Up next for the Trojans is the Fight On! Challenge, USC’s alumni game, on March 13 at the Whisper Rock Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
