East Lansing, Mich. – Junior Brooke Biermann is tied for the individual lead at 2-under par 70 as Michigan State’s women’s golf team hosts the Spartan SunCoast Invitational at the Palm Aire Champions Course in Sarasota, Fla.
The 15-team field was scheduled to play two rounds on Sunday’s first day of competition, but inclement weather in the area forced the teams to play just one round.
The second round of play will be held on Monday, Feb. 19.
Ohio State shot a 3-over par 291 and leads the field of 15 teams by five shots over second-place College of Charleston (8-over par 296). North Carolina is in third place (9-over par 297), with Georgia Southern in fourth place at 10-over par 298 and Tennessee rounds out the top-five teams at 11-over par 299.
The Spartans are just five shots out of the top-five teams, tied for 10th place at 16-over par 304 with Kent State.
Biermann fired a 2-under par 70 that included six birdies. She is tied for the individual lead in the field of 81 golfers with Ohio State’s Caley McGinty.
Sophomore Paula Balanzategui is tied for 28th place at 4-over par 76 and senior Valentina Rossi is tied for 52nd place at 6-over par 78.
Junior Katie Lu is tied for 62nd place at 8-over par 80 and freshman Ana Sofia Murcia is one shot back, tied for 65th place at 9-over par 81.
Playing as individuals, sophomore Shannon Kennedy is tied for 28th place at 4-over par 76 and freshman Ella Weber shot a 6-over par 78 and is tied for 52nd place.
Michigan State will tee off in Monday’s final round starting at 8:15 a.m. on the 10th hole, playing alongside Kent State and NC State. The final round will start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
