Melgrati Shines in Final Round of Pac-12 Preview; Cats Climb Up to Third

KAILUA-KONA, Hawai’i – No. 20 Arizona Women’s Golf bounced back in Wednesday’s final round of the Pac-12 Preview, shooting 1-under as a team to finish the tournament in third place at even par. The Wildcats were one of only two teams in the field to break par on the final day with half of the competing teams shooting 10-over par or worse as Nanea Golf Club once again challenged all 60 golfers on course. Junior Carolina Melgrati shot a bogey-free round of 67, which marked her lowest round of the season.

“We were challenged in the second round, and we responded with some quality scores today,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “Our young ladies’ response to the adversity of Tuesday showed our maturity and determination, and I am proud to see them put yesterday behind them. Carolina carded the lowest round of the day and played some of her best golf as well, so hats off to her. We will grow from this week and take these key lessons with us moving forward.”

Melgrati’s 6-under performance on Wednesday propelled her up the individual leaderboards to end the week tied with her teammate, Gile Bite Starkute, for sixth place at 3-under par. The duo’s scores gave the Wildcats their first 54-hole tournament with a pair of golfers in the top 10 this season. Arizona got a third top-20 finish from sophomore Julia Misemer who finished several shots back of her teammates in a tie for 15th.

The Cats continue their streak of strong showings at the Pac-12 Preview in Hawai’i by securing a third-place finish for a third consecutive year.

Arizona will return to action next month with a trip to the other side of the country. The program will participate in the University of Florida’s Gators Invitational at Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville on Saturday, March 2.
