The Arizona State men’s golf team is in the mix for the 15-team title along with several others at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Tournament in Las Vegas, which finishes Tuesday with a final 18 holes.
ASU is at 7-over 583 (287-296) as the second round brought high scores to everyone, as scores ranged from Oklahoma (3-over 291) to Pepperdine (16-over 304),
Junior Josele Ballester shot a 5-under 67 to lead the fourth-ranked Sun Devil men’s golf team in the first round, and then battled his way to a 2-over 74 in the second round. He is at 3-under 141, tied for sixth and five shots back of Missouri’s Jack Lundin.
Ballester, ranked No. 17 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, had seven birdies Sunday and In his past six rounds was 28-under par with a 67.33 stroke average before Monday’s 3-over par.
