Leader in the Clubhouse – Stanford Cardinal

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – A tournament-low 65 from Michael Thorbjorsen has put the senior in sole possession of first place after 36 holes of the Cabo Collegiate, as he holds a one-stroke lead heading into tomorrow’s final round. Stanford shot 3-under as a team in Monday’s second round to finish the day sixth in the team standings. 

After a first-hole bogey on the par-4 fifth, Thorbjornsen knocked down seven birdies on the round to take the tournament lead at 8-under for the event. The Wellesley, Mass., native heads into tomorrow’s round looking for his first tournament win since last season’s Pac-12 Championships. 

Fellow senior Karl Vilips made his own surge up the leaderboard with a 5-under 66, scoring six birdies and and one bogey on the round to move into fourth in the individual standings. Vilips has now scored ten consecutive rounds under par this season. 

Jake Beber-Frankel shaved one stroke off of his first round effort, registering a 73 on the day with three birdies and five bogeys in his second trip around Twin Dolphin Club.

Rounding out the Cardinal contingent, Barclay Brown shot a 6-over 77 while Sean-Karl Dobson scored a 8-over 79 in Stanford’s non-scoring round. 

The Cabo Collegiate comes to a close tomorrow morning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
