COLLEGE PARK, MD — Each week during the 2023-2024 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week’s Terp of the Week is Maryland women’s golfer Nicha Kanpai.
Sophomore Nicha Kanpai of the Maryland women’s golf team won her first individual title Tuesday at the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas. Kanpai tied with Illinois’ Isabel Sy for the individual title with a score of 204 (69-66-69). Her second round score of 66 and 54-hole score of 204 were both career-bests. Her score of 204 also set a program record.
As a team, the Terrapins finished in second of 16 teams competing with a score of 835, which smashed the previous program record of 847 set by the Terrapins last season. The Terps’ shot a 279 in the first round, then a 275 in the second round Monday, which also set a program record. They shot a 281 Tuesday and finished 29 strokes under par and just four strokes behind SMU.
