Fouillet In 15th Place After Day One

FAIRFAX – The No. 25 California women’s golf team played the first 36 holes of the Juli Inkster Invitational at Meadow Club on Monday, settling in 10th place with a team score of 13-over 589.

The Golden Bears got another fast start from Constance Fouillet, who shot an even-par 72 in each of the first two rounds and will head into Tuesday tied for 15th place individually. The freshman has now led the Bears following the first day in four out of seven tournaments this season.

Senior Cristina Ochoa (T27; 75-72 – 147) and sophomore Adora Liu (T42; 77-72 – 149) equaled Fouillet’s 72 in the second round, which saw the Bears improve upon their previous 18-hole score by three strokes. However, nine of the other 13 teams in the field also carded higher in round two, dropping the Bears back four spots after they had posted the sixth-best opening-round score.

Also contributing to Cal’s score in both rounds was senior Rina Tatematsu (T48; 73-77), who carded a 6-over 150 in her spring debut. Junior Kaylyn Noh opened the day with a 4-over 76 and shot 9-over 81 in round two.

The Bears head into the Tuesday’s final round just six strokes behind fifth-place Denver and San Francisco.
