HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Vanderbilt women’s golf finished the first round of the three-day Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club on Monday with a 6-over-par total of 290 strokes. The Commodores sit tied for 12th place with 36 holes left to play.
“We certainly didn’t get off to a hot start,” said head coach Greg Allen. “I thought the girls really hung in there and showed some fight on our back nine.”
Eight of Vanderbilt’s 10 birdies on Monday came on the back nine holes. Virginie Ding and Tillie Claggett each contributed three birdies on their way to both carding 1-over 72 rounds. They are tied for 38th individually.
Lynn Lim and Ava Merrill both notched rounds of 2-over 73 on Tuesday, leaving them tied for 51st individually. Celina Sattelkau was 3-over par on the day with a 74.
“This tournament is loaded with great teams,” said Allen. “Our girls love a challenge and I’m looking forward to seeing them battle the next two days to make a move up the leaderboard.”
Through 18, the Commodores sit just one stroke behind 11th-place Alabama and six behind a flurry of four teams tied for seventh overall. Arizona State is in the lead at 6-under par.
Vanderbilt will tee off Tuesday’s second round in groupings with Kentucky and Oregon at 9:10 a.m. CT. Golf Channel will broadcast again from 1:30-4:30 p.m. with coverage also streaming on Peacock. Live scoring for the event can be found on Golfstat.
