The Commodores collected a tournament-best 57 birdies, while Vandy led the tournament in par-5 scoring at 16-under.
“I know our guys wanted to come out and try to finish strong today, but we just never could get momentum and we probably pressed a little bit,” said Vanderbilt men’s golf head coach Scott Limbaugh. “However, I am really proud of the way we battled because that is the fibers of Vandy golf, to fight with whatever game you have. We learned a lot about our team on a very demanding course. You never want to waste the opportunity to learn and how we handle this will say a lot about this team and our leadership. I am proud of William and the bounce back he showed this week and also very proud of Cole and his ability to find a way to shoot a score.”
Graduate student William Moll posted his best finish of the 2023-24 campaign, as the All-American ended the tournament in a tie for seventh at 4-under 209. The Houston, Texas, posted round scores of 69-68-72, as he went 1-over 72 in Tuesday’s final round.
Senior Cole Sherwood also finished inside the top-20 on the individual leaderboard, as he carded 2-under 211 to end the Cabo Collegiate in a tie for 14th. The All-American finished 2-under 69 on Tuesday to post his fifth top-20 finish of the 2023-24 season. Graduate student Matthew Riedel also collected a top-30 finish in Mexico, as the Houston, Texas, native finished in a tie for 30th. Riedel carded 1-over 72 in Round 3 to end the tournament at 4-over 217.
“This was a great learning experience and it will be nice to get home and get back to work to improve on some things that we need to do better,” Limbaugh added. “I love this team and we always own our results together. This game rewards you when you are tough enough to do the right things over and over again. Especially when those aren’t the easy things to do. Lastly, we want to say thank you to all of the great people who do the hard work to make this event so awesome, especially to all of our fans that came down to support us.”
