PHOENIX, Ariz. (March 13, 2024) – Washington State men’s golf wrapped things up at the GCU Invitational Wednesday afternoon with an even 284 performance in the final round to finish in third place at 10-under, 842 at the par-71 GCU Golf Course.
Sophomore Sam Renner finished the tournament tied for eighth at 6-under, 207. Renner parred eight of his nine first holes to open day two at 1-over. He turned the corner and birdied hole 10 to get back even before a bogey on 13 and another birdie on 18 rounded out an even-par, 71 day.
Senior Preston Bebich ended in a tie for 10th place at 5-under, 208. He quickly started round three at 2-under after recording birdies on two of his first four holes. After another birdie on hole nine, he turned the corner and birdied holes 10, 14 and 17 to finish the day at 3-under, 68.
Fifth year Pono Yanagi and senior Nate Plaster both ended the tournament in a tie for 36th, each at 2-over, 215. Yanagi scattered five birdies and five bogeys to sit at par through his first 16 holes of the day, but a double-bogey on his second-to-last hole put him at 2-over, 73.
Plaster also went 2-over, 73 in the final round, and outside of a pair of double-bogeys, he scattered three birdies and 13 parred holes.
Redshirt freshman Ben Borgida tied for 49th with a three-round score of 4-over, 217. He opened round three with a birdie on his first hole before adding two more on the back nine, and a final birdie on his last hole to go 1-over, 72.
Senior Drayton Joseph played as an individual, and finished tied for 22nd at 1-under, 212. After a difficult 5-over on the front nine in round three, he parred the back nine with a pair of birdies and five holes for par.
The Cougars will next play at The Goodwin on March 28-30 hosted by Stanford at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Calif.
