FRESNO, Calif. (March 25, 2024) – Washington State women’s golf currently sits tied for fourth at the Fresno State Classic after day one play was ended early due to nightfall.
At the end of round one, the Cougs were tied for sixth place at 6-over, 294 at the par-72 Copper River Country Club. With the WSU golfers ranging between 15 and 17 completed holes in round two to this point, the team is unofficially tied for fourth and will wrap up their remaining few round-two holes Tuesday morning.
Individually, junior Madelyn Gamble ended round one tied for 11th in the 116-player field at an even-par, 72. She parred her first eight holes before putting up a birdie midway through her round. She followed that up with a bogey and eight more pars to finish even.
Junior Sarah Skovgaard-Bils and freshman Alice Johansson also had excellent showings in round one, each at 1-over, 73.
Skovgaard-Bils was even through her first seven holes, before a birdie on hole 17 and a pair of bogeys on the back nine put her at one over. She turned the corner and birdied hole three to get back to even before one more bogey on her second-to-last hole led her to finish 1-over.
Alice Johansson put together three birdies on the back nine and was 1-under after 11 holes before a pair of bogeys on the front nine put her at 1-over.
Junior Emily Cadwell was tied for 62nd at the end of round one with a 4-over score of 76. She had an up-and-down round, and after sitting at 2-under over her first eight holes, a triple-bogey on 16 put her 1-over. She went back even with a birdie on the next hole, but a double bogey on 18 and two more bogeys on the front nine put her 4-over in round one.
Sophomore Hannah Harrison wrapped up round one at 6-over, 78 to sit tied for 87th. She played steady with 12 parred holes and six bogeys scattered across the opening round to finish at 6-over.
The Cougars continue at the Fresno State Classic tomorrow with the conclusion of round two teeing off at 8:30 a.m. PT before rolling into the event’s third and final round.
