DURHAM – Duke men’s golf played the first two rounds of the Valspar Collegiate and five Blue Devils completed play at the Seahawk Intercollegiate on Monday. The Duke lineup is currently tied for 12th at 12-over, 580, and Jimmy Zheng paced the individuals at the Seahawk Intercollegiate with a fourth-place finish at 2-under, 214.
HOW IT HAPPENED: VALSPAR COLLEGIATE DAY ONE
- Duke played the first two rounds on Monday, shooting a 15-over, 299, in the first round and a 3-under, 281, in the afternoon round.
- Two Blue Devils, Byran Kim and Luke Sample, enter the final round at 2-over. Sample rolled in 10 birdies across the first 36 holes, including six in the second round en route to an even-par, 71, while Kim bounced back from a 4-over first round with a 2-under, 69 in the second round.
- William Love signed for rounds of 2-over, 73, and 1-over, 72, on Monday. The sophomore stumbled late in the first round but steadied the ship with just three bogeys in his second round scattered among two birdies and 13 pars.
- Ethan Evans bounced back from an opening-round, 7-over, 78 with an under-par effort in the second round, carding a bogey-free, 2-under, 69, in the afternoon. Evans’ second round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 sixth hole and was complemented by 17 pars.
- After a disqualification in the first round due to a scorecard error, Daniel Choi carded a 2-over, 73, in the second round.
HOW IT HAPPENED: SEAHAWK INTERCOLLEGIATE
- Jimmy Zheng fired a third-round 2-under, 70, to finish in fourth place at 2-under, 214. The senior started his round with three birdies across the first four holes and got as low as 5-under following an eagle on the par-5 sixth, but faltered slightly over the next four holes before closing strong with a birdie on the par-4 13th and then three final pars.
- Ian Siebers and Kelly Chinn both tallied top-20 finishes in the event, with Siebers tying for 10th and Chinn tying for 18th. Chinn fired a 3-under, 69, on Monday with four birdies on each of the four par-5 holes while dropping just a single shot. Siebers rolled in four birdies during his final round but dropped shots on four holes as well en route to a 2-over, 74.
- John Peters finished in a tie for 64th and Daniel Uranga rounded out Duke’s representation in the field in a tie for 86th.
