The Vols shot a 1-under 279 in the opening round and are tied with Stanford and Georgia ahead of Friday’s round.
Redshirt sophomore Lance Simpson led Tennessee in round one after shooting a 2-under 68. Simpson’s round was highlighted by his 3-under bogey-free front nine. The Knoxville native enters round two tied for fifth inside a 168-player field.
Jake Hall and Bryce Lewis also provided UT with under-par rounds after posting 1-under 69s in round one. The redshirt senior duo registered three birdies each and both birdied hole 16 to get to under-par on the day.
Hall and Lewis enter the second round tied for eighth place.
Bruce Murphy gave Tennessee its final counting round after shooting a 73 in the opening round and enters day two tied for 68th. After shooting 3-over on the front nine, Murphy bounced back after the turn and shot even-par through his final nine holes.
Sophomore Josh Hill shot a 76 in the first round and heads into round two tied for 137th.
