Men's Golf Set To Compete In Tiger Collegiate Invitational


COLUMBIA, Mo. – Rutgers men’s golf travels to Missouri this week to play in the Tiger Collegiate Invitational hosted by University of Missouri.

The two day event starting Monday April 8th will feature 18 teams including 11 teams ranked in the top 100. They include host Missouri along with Alabama-Birmingham, Arkansas St, Central Arkansas, Chattanooga, Iowa St, Kansas St, Lindenwood, Lipscomb, Louisiana-Monroe, Minnesota, San Francisco, South Carolina, South Dakota St, St. Mary’s (CA). Stetson, Wyoming.

The event takes place at The Club at Old Hawthorne and plays at a par 72 and spans 7,221 yards. The Scarlet Knights had one of their best showings in program history at this event just last year.

Weston Jones led Rutgers to a fifth-place finish in the tournament thanks to two top-five rounds in program history. The Scarlet Knights shot 13-under in round 1 and 12-under in round 3, good for the second-best and fourth-best rounds in school history respectively. Rutgers recorded a score of 839 (-25) through the tournament, the third best team 54-hole score ever. Weston Jones shot 65 in round 1, the fourth-best solo round in Rutgers history and his best round as a Scarlet Knight.

Rutgers is coming off a seventh-place finish at The Johnnie-O at Sea Island. In the second year Rutgers has hosted the event, they completed a long time goal of beating Big Ten powerhouse Illinois. Captain Xavier Marcoux and junior Weston Jones led the way with a 19th place tie.

The Scarlet Knights wrap up their regular season with this event, and will then travel to Columbus, Ohio to participate in the Big Ten Championships on April 26th. Rutgers will use these last two tournaments to try and contend for their first NCAA berth in 20 years.
