Senior Lands In Top 25 After Opening Round
NAPA – The No. 25 California women’s golf team teed off the opening round of the Silverado Showdown on Monday, posting a team score of 13-over-par 301 that landed the Golden Bears in 14th place.
Rolling out the same lineup that saw them finish in second place at last weekend’s PING/ASU Invitational, the Bears were led by senior Cristina Ochoa who carded a 1-over 73 through 18 holes. Ochoa finished the day strong shooting 2-under on the back nine – tied for the 6th-best back nine score among the current top 25 – placing her in a tie for 25th place individually.
Freshman Constance Fouillet got out to a strong start through 11 holes, shooting even-par to place in the top 20. She recovered from a few bogeys to finish the day with a birdie on hole 18, settling at 3-over 75 for the day.
Sophomores Olivia Lee and Adora Liu carded a 4-over 76 and 5-over 77, respectively. Senior Rina Tatematsu had four birdies to lead the team, but finished at 6-over 78 after a slow start on the back nine.
With two rounds to go in their final competition ahead of the Pac-12 Championship later this month, the Bears will look to make up ground over the final 36 holes as they’ve done numerous times this season. They head into Tuesday’s second round eight strokes out of the top six. Tatematsu will tee off first for the Bears on hole 10 at 9:42 a.m. PT.
After round one of the Silverado Showdown, Cristina Ochoa leads Cal in the top 25.
