Crockett in Hunt at Hawkeye Invite – University of Nebraska

Harry Crockett fired rounds of 67 and 68 to sit in sole possession of second place while leading the Nebraska’s men’s golf team on the opening day of the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City on Saturday.

Crockett, a junior from Oxted, England recorded five birdies and an eagle on the 537-yard, par-5 second hole to card an opening-round 67 (-4). He added nine pars while working around a trio of bogeys on the par-71, 7,197-yard layout at Finkbine Golf Course.

Crockett was solid again in the second round with five more birdies and 11 pars along with a pair of bogeys to card a 68 (-3), closing the day at 135 (-7).

Crockett trails only Wisconsin’s Cameron Huss on the individual leader board, after Huss fired back-to-back rounds of 66 to end the day atop the standings at 132 (-10). Iowa’s Hogan Hansen enters Sunday’s final round in third at 137 (-5).

Crockett’s performance helped the Huskers post a 567 (-1) team score to sit in a tie for sixth in the 16-team field. Wisconsin leads the tournament at 558 (-10), while TCU is tied for second with Central Arkansas at 563 (-5). Illinois State (564), and the hosts from Iowa (565) round out the top five in the team standings, while the Huskers are tied with South Dakota State for sixth.

Senior Will Marshall got off to a strong start with a 68 (-3) in the opening round with three birdies and an eagle on No. 2. He added 12 pars and a pair of bogeys over the first 18 holes, before managing a 74 in the second round to head to Sunday’s final round in a tie for 26th at even-par 142.

Quinn Yost also carded a career-best 68 (-3) in the second round after managing a 75 in the first round.  The sophomore heads to Sunday tied for 31st at 143 (+1).

Junior Hamish Murray (149) contributed rounds of 74 and 75 to sit in a tie for 68th. Murray’s second-round included an eagle on the 428-yard, par-4 14th hole.

Davis Johnson pitched in a 73 to Nebraska’s first-round team score before adding a 77 in the second to close the day at 150 (+8) in a tie for 73rd in the 90-golfer field.

Senior Gentry Scheve rounded out the Nebraska contingent with rounds of 72 and 74 to close at 146 (+4) in a tie for 53rd while playing as an individual outside the Nebraska lineup.

The Hawkeye Invitational will conclude with Sunday’s final round beginning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available from GolfStat.com.
