Vavrova Leads Huskers on First Day in Ohio – University of Nebraska

Michaela Vavrova fired a second-round 73 (+1) to close the first day of the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational in a tie for 18th at 149 (+5) to lead the Nebraska women’s golf team on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

Vavrova, a senior from Bojnice, Slovakia, opened the tournament with a 76 (+4) in the first round before heating up to fuel a Husker climb up the leader board in the second round. 

Arden Louchheim added a 73 of her own in the second round on the par-72, 6,319-yard layout of the Scarlet Course to help the Huskers move up three spots in the team standings after the first round. Nebraska heads to Sunday’s final round in seventh place in the 12-team field at 603 (+27). 

Louchheim, a freshman from Park City, Utah, began her day with a 77 to end her first 36 holes at 150 (+6) in a tie for 26th individually.

Miu Takahashi bounced back from an opening-round 78 to card a 74 in the second round, while Lindsey Thiele led the Huskers with an opening-round 74 before ending the day with a 78. Takahashi and Thiele are tied for 32nd at 152 (+8).

Lena Hassert also produced a 78 in the opening round before settling for a second-round 80 to close her day at 158 (+14) in a tie for 61st in the 75-player field.

The hosts from Ohio State lead the tournament at 574 (-2) after rounds of 291 and 283. The Buckeyes carry an eight-shot lead over second-place Michigan State at 582, after the Spartans shot back-to-back rounds of 291. Kent State sits in third at 592 (+16).

Ohio State’s Caley McGinty sits atop the individual standings at 139 (-5), while Kent State’s Veronika Kedronova is three strokes back in second at 142 (-2). Ohio State’s Kary Hollenbaugh was the only other golfer to break par for the day at 143 (-1), just four strokes behind McGinty.

The Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational will conclude with Sunday’s final round beginning at 8:15 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available from GolfStat.com.
