Meet the 4 amateurs in the field

A week after the first men’s major championship of the year, it’s time for the first of five women’s majors.

The 2024 Chevron Championship gets underway Thursday at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas, outside of Houston. The world’s best female golfers will be in attendance, including World No. 1 Nelly Korda, who comes to Texas looking for her fifth straight victory.

However, also in the field are four of the best amateurs in the world, including one who punched her ticket to the season’s first major thanks to her win at Augusta National.

Here’s a look at the four amateurs competing in the 2024 Chevron Championship.

Argentina´s Ela Anacona was dominant at the Women’s Amateur Latin America Championship, running away with a 12-shot victory at Pilar Golf in her home country. Her final round of 3-under 69 set a championship-record total of 15-under 273.

Schofill punched her ticket thanks to her win at the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. Although she missed the cut at the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, she come to Texas in good form, finishing T-20 at the SEC Women’s Golf Championships last weekend.

Woad, the sophomore at Florida State, won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur thanks to her three birdies in the final four holes. She’s missing the ACC Women’s Golf Championship this week to make her major debut.
