Top of the Leaderboard – Stanford Cardinal

Stanford

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Stanford navigated another tough round at Pasatiempo Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon, jumping into sole possession of first place in the team standings after shooting 5-over on the day. The Cardinal heads into tomorrow’s final round with a two-shot advantage over the field.

Senior Karl Vilips lead the charge for Stanford, shooting a 4-under 66 with six birdies and two bogeys in his second trip around the course. After an even-par start through nine holes, Vilips was flawless on the back nine with birdies on holes 11, 15, 16, and 18 to climb into a share of third place with a two-shot deficit behind leader Filip Jakubcik of Arizona.

Michael Thorbjornsen added two strokes from yesterday’s effort with a second round 1-over 71 with four bogeys on the round, but the senior limited the damage with a trio of birdies on holes 4, 8, and 18 to stay in the hunt as he headed to the clubhouse tied-10th.

Barclay Brown settled into the course in his second-round performance, shooting 2-over on the round with three birdies, three bogeys, and a double-bogey, while Jake-Beber Frankel and Ethan Gao each scored a 3-over 73 to round out the scorecards for Stanford. Sean-Karl Dobson was Stanford’s non-scoring golfer on the afternoon with a 4-over 74.

Third and final round action resumes tomorrow as Stanford will be paired with Arizona, Washington, and San Diego State. Tee times for the Cardinal will begin at 12:04 p.m. PT with live coverage of the event streaming on Peacock at 4 p.m. PT.
