WILMINGTON, N.C. –Duke women’s golf graduate student Emma McMyler carded a 1-under-par, 71, to pace the sixth-ranked Blue Devils on day one of the ACC Championship, which is being contested at the 6,142-yard, par-72 Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, N.C. With her opening round of 71, McMyler is currently tied for 17th overall.
How It Happened
- Emma McMyler, the 2022 Big East Individual Champion, had a solid start to her round as she rolled in a 24-foot birdie putt on No. 4 to get in the red early. She then drained a 21-footer for birdie on the par-5 eighth hole to get to 2-under for the day. McMyler, a native of San Antonio, Texas, was able to get up-and-down for par from 78 yards out on No. 10 by sinking an 11-footer to remain at 2-under. She registered a sand save for par on No. 12 as she drained a 10-foot putt as well. McMyler suffered her lone bogey on No. 13, but was able to close with five pars to finish with a 71. She continued to have her putter working as she drained a 27-foot putt for par on the 17th and posted a sand save for par on No. 18. McMyler hit six fairways, 10 greens and rolled a season-best 26 putts.
- After parring her first two holes to start the day, senior Phoebe Brinker suffered a 3-putt bogey on No. 3.She was able to get that back on the fifth hole as she rolled in a 4-foot birdie to return to even.Brinker, who is from Wilmington, Del., moved into the red digits as she collected a 10-foot birdie on the eighth hole.After making the turn, she had a double-bogey on No. 10 and then bogey on No. 14 to drop to 2-over for the day.Brinker was able to finish strong with two birdies over her final three holes to finish with a 73.She hit her 9-iron from 135 yards on 16 to two feet for birdie and then 2-putted for birdie on 18.Brinker hit 14 greens, eight fairways and had 33 putts.
- Sophomore Andie Smith opened her morning with a bogey and then lipped out for birdie on No. 5.After a pair of bogeys on No. 6 and No. 11, she fell to 3-over for the day.Smith, a native of Hobe Sound, Fla., played her final seven holes at 1-under as she hit her approach to the fringe of the green on 18 and chipped to one foot for birdie to close her day with a 74.She hit 14 greens, five fairways and had 34 putts for her round.
