Clemson, S.C. – Isabella Rawl and Annabelle Pancake both had rounds of one-under-par 71 on Saturday to lead Clemson to a second-place finish during the 54-hole stroke play portion of the ACC Women’s Golf Championship at Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, NC. Clemson now advances to Sunday’s Match Play championship against the University of Virginia. The match will being at 8:00 a.m.
Clemson is the number-two seed and Virginia the number-three seed in the semifinals. Wake Forest, the number three ranked team in the nation and the defending NCAA Champion, is the top seed after finishing stroke play with a three-round total of 841. The Demon Deacons will face number-four seed North Carolina, who is ranked 29th in the latest national ranking.
The Clemson vs. Virginia semifinal match will be a rematch of last year’s ACC Championship match, a competition won by Clemson by a 3-1-1 score. That was Clemson’s first ACC Championship. Clemson is ranked 20th in the nation and Virginia 25th.
Clemson finished second in stroke play with an 848 team score, 16-under-par. It was program’s best 54-hole score in the ACC tournament in terms of total score and score vs. par. Virginia was third with an 856 score, eight-under-par, and Duke was fifth at 866.
Rawl finished in a tie for second with a 209 score, seven-under-par after rounds of 67-71-71. Rawl’s 209 total and seven-under-par score vs. par tied the Clemson record in ACC Tournament play. Pancake had the exact same total last year when she finished fourth.
Rawl’s tie for second is the best finish by a Clemson women’s golfer at the ACC Tournament and it was the best finish in a tournament in her career. Rachel Kuehn of Wake Forest won the tournament with a 206 score. Rawl tied for second with Amanda Sambach of Virginia, who won the ACC Championship last year.
Rawl had a three-under-par 33 on the front side on Saturday and had a two-shot lead headed to the back nine. She had seven pars and two bogeys on the back, while Kuehn played her final six holes in four under par.
Pancake and Sydney Roberts both finished tied for 10th, giving Clemson three top 10 golfers in the same ACC Tournament for the first time in school history. Pancake had rounds of 70-72-71 for her 213 total, while Roberts had rounds of 72-68-73. Pancake was -8 on par five holes for the tournament, second in the field of 60 players, while Roberts led all players in birdies with 15.
