Back Makes History With 64 at Pac-12 Championships

PULLMAN, Wash. – A historic 8-under par performance by freshman Charlotte Back propelled No. 14 Arizona Women’s Golf up the leaderboard on the second day of the Pac-12 Championships at Palouse Ridge Golf Course. The Wildcats shot 8-under as a team to move up to seventh place at 8-over after 36 holes. Back was one of two golfers on Monday to shoot 64, joining USC’s Catherine Park, to card the lowest rounds ever at the Pac-12 Championships.

“Today was an incredible performance from Charlotte and one of the best rounds I have seen in my coaching career,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “Charlotte’s amazing round really helped set the tone for us today as we bounced back from yesterday’s difficult round. This was still a challenging golf course today, and we had three ladies break par. Our mindset must be the same tomorrow in the final round. We need to go out there focused, card more great scores and see where we end up.”

Back’s 64 also tied the lowest round in school history, matching Haley Moore in 2017 and Gile Bite Starkute earlier this season at the Match in the Desert. She carded nine birdies to just one bogey on Monday that included four consecutive birdies to end her round. The freshman from Germany will enter Tuesday’s final round in a tie for third place at 3-under.

The Wildcats posted a 24-stroke improvement in Monday’s round from Sunday’s opener with Back shooting 8-under, Starkute carding 2-under and Julia Misemer finishing 1-under par. After carding Arizona’s lowest round on Sunday, Starkute now sits in a tie for 21st at 1-over par for the tournament.

Arizona will look to climb up the standings in the final round on Tuesday, sitting one stroke behind host Washington State and four strokes behind Arizona State. The Cats will tee off at 8:20 a.m. (MST) for the finale and will play alongside Washington.
