CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) –
For the first time since 2006, North Carolina captured the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship with a 3-1 victory over Florida State in the 2024 match-play final at Charlotte Country Club.
With the win, the Tar Heels earned the ACC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regionals.
North Carolina, which entered the week ranked No. 2 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Polls, earned the victory on Hole No. 17 when Peter Fountain sank a four-foot par putt and sealed a 2&1 win over Florida State’s Brett Roberts. Fountain capped off three straight wins by UNC, as teammates Austin Greaser and David Ford tallied matching 2&1 wins to earn the title.
The lone Seminole victory in the first match came from Cole Anderson, as he finished a perfect 2-0 in today’s match play contests. Anderson fended off UNC’s Dylan Menante 5&3 to give FSU an early 1-0 advantage.
The Selection Show for the Division I Men’s Golf Championship is set for Wednesday, May 1, at 2 p.m. on Golf Channel. The NCAA Regionals are slated for May 13-15 at six sites, while the NCAA Championship is scheduled for May 24-29 from the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
