Eight Golden Bears Elected To Cal Athletics Hall Of Fame

McDaniel, Accomplished Student-Athletes Headline Class Of 2024

BERKELEY – Eight California standouts have been elected for induction into the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Class of 2024 is as follows:

·       Scott Frandsen (men’s rowing, 1999-2002) – current Cal head coach won three national championships as a student-athlete and is a three-time Olympian for Canada

·       Tarik Glenn (football, 1993-96) – a first-team All-Pac-10 selection as a senior who played on both sides of the line at Cal before becoming a three-time Pro Bowler and winning a Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts

·       Alexis Gray-Lawson (women’s basketball, 2005-10) – All-American and three-time All-Pac-10 selection was the third Cal women’s basketball player ever selected in the WNBA Draft

·       Jorge Gutierrez (men’s basketball, 2008-12) – All-American and Pac-12 Player of the Year helped lead Cal to the conference championship in 2010

·       Pia Halbig (women’s golf, 2008-11) – Two-time All-American has the lowest career scoring average in program history

·       Caitlin Leverenz Smith (women’s swimming & diving, 2009-13) – National Swimmer of the Year won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics

·       Mike MacDonald (rugby, 1999-2004) – Five-time All-American and four-time national champion went on to decorated international career

·       Nancy McDaniel (women’s golf, 1995-present) – Founded Cal’s women’s golf program and has been the Bears’ only head coach ever (29 years)

As part of Cal Athletics’ enhanced Hall of Fame process, formal induction for the Class of 2024 will take place at the next Hall of Fame Gala, scheduled for the fall of 2025. The classes of 2024 and 2025 will be inducted together at the celebratory event as well as during a home football game.

With the addition of the new members, the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame now features 347 individuals and seven rowing teams. The school’s Hall of Fame, which is located on the west side of California Memorial Stadium, is open to all ticket holders after each home football game.
